What are the benefits of dental implants?
Compared to more traditional teeth replacement techniques, dental implants offer a number of significant benefits, including:
- Teeth replacement that is designed to replicate the look and feel of natural teeth
- Improved ability to chew and speak
- Stable and secure along the gumline
- No adhesives or pastes are necessary
- Maintenance of dental implants requires nothing more than routine brushing and flossing
- The results of dental implants are often permanent
We offer several different types of dental implants so that your procedure can be tailored to provide you with optimal function and esthetics.
Am I a candidate for dental implants?
Candidates for dental implants are typically those who have reasonably healthy gums and adequate jawbone density to accommodate the implant. Patients who are currently affected by certain medical conditions that may affect healing after implant surgery and those who are undergoing radiation or chemotherapy may not be candidates for this procedure. Dr. Kosdon will conduct a full oral evaluation during your initial consultation and talk with you about your options. If you are not a candidate for dental implants, he will be happy to recommend alternatives that can help you achieve your goals.
What can I expect during the procedure?
Dr. Kosdon begins the dental implant procedure by creating a precise treatment plan designed to place the implants with the most accurate, natural fit possible. A trusted oral surgeon who works hand-in-hand with Dr. Kosdon will then place a titanium post inside the gum in the area of the missing tooth. Over the next few months, the post should fuse itself to the jawbone, mimicking the function of a natural tooth root. A temporary crown can be placed onto the post during this period. Once fusion has occurred, Dr. Kosdon will place a custom-designed dental crown on top of the post. After a final polish, the dental implant process is complete and you can enjoy a new, healthier-looking smile!
